80 percent of all bank accounts and 60 percent of mobile connections have been linked to the base . This information was given by a senior official of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), the agency managing the Aadhaar plan. Government has kept time till March 31, 2018 for this work.
It is expected that this initiative will help in rectification of the undeclared wealth-property. For this purpose, it has been mandatory to add PAN number to the base. All mobile SIMs are to be connected to the base by March 31 so that the identity of mobile phone users is ensured. A senior official of the UIDAI said that about 87 crore of 109.9 crore bank accounts have been added to the base. Out of these, 58 crore bank accounts have been verified, while verification process is in progress with the documents filed in bank cases.
The official said that out of 142.9 million active mobile connections, 85.7 crore has already been added to the base. Ajay Bhushan Pandey, CEO of UIDAI, said, “Nearly 80 percent of bank accounts have been linked to the base. Hopefully the rest will be added soon. A 12-digit base number has been issued to more than 1.2 billion citizens across the country.
