For most people, a three-tier wedding cake is all they would like to have on their big day. But for some, doing the conventional is a complete no-no. And for those, this wedding cake would probably be perfect. British fashion designer Debbie Wingham has created a six-foot tall cake for a wedding show in Dubai. Shaped in the form of a bride, the cake is made using 1,000 eggs and 20kg chocolate. It is covered with 50 kg of lace textured fondant and was decorated using 5,000 flowers with edible pearl inserts. That’s not all, the cake, which took 10 days to complete, has five three-carat diamonds, each valued at £200,000 (1,77,00,000 approximately), along with smaller stones on the head dress.
As a result, the cake is valued at $1million (Rs 6,50,00,000 approximately), and is the tallest cake Debbie has ever made.
A spokeswoman for the artist told the Sun, “The bridal gown cake is so elegant, the material looks so realistic it’s hard to believe it’s meant to be eaten. The cake techniques included cake lace, embossing, sculpting and moulding and even creating edible fabric using rice paper and some modern techniques adopted from Debbie’s days as one of the world’s finest couturiers. This fabric manipulation can be seen as the fondant comes to life and looks like material.”
Debbie, whose company is called Couture to Cakes, has also catered to celebrities such as Katy Perry, Justin Bieber and more. She is so popular that currently she is booked for the next six months with orders.
In fact, this cake is not Debbie’s lone achievement. Just last year, she had created the world’s most expensive pair of shoes and before that had created the world’s most expensive black diamond dress.
Creating valuable pieces is clearly Debbie’s love. But for now, we are only wondering, why would anyone want to cut this cake, which is actually a piece of art.
